7-year-old girl bitten, dragged by pet pit bull in Delhi

A seven-year-old girl was bitten and dragged by her neighbour’s pet pit bull in Delhi’s Jagatpuri area. The girl had bite marks on different parts of her leg.

The girl’s mother called the police at 8.47 pm on Friday night, saying that her daughter had been attacked by the pet dog.

Upon arriving at the scene, police personnel found bite marks on different parts of her leg and also her hand, after which she and her mother were sent to the Hedgewar Hospital for treatment.

The police said that a case under sections 289 and 337 of the IPC is being registered against the dog owner.

The latest incident came two months after a one-and-a-half-year-old girl was attacked by a pit bull in the national capital’s Burari area.

The attack on January 2 left the toddler with fractures at three different places on her leg. She had to get 18 stitches.

Keeping pit bulls as pets in the country has been banned as they are considered a “dangerous” breed.

The Centre had informed the Delhi High Court in December 2023 that a decision prohibiting licences for keeping “dangerous” dog breeds, including pit bulls, Rottweilers, Neapolitan Mastiffs, Wolf Dogs, Terriers, American Bulldogs, as pets would be made within three months.
