India vs England: James Anderson reveals message during Shubman Gill spat in Dharamsala Test

James Anderson has revealed the message he gave Shubman Gill and the Indian batter’s response during their verbal spat in the Dharamsala Test recently.

Anderson and Gill were involved in a good battle on the field during the fifth Test of the recently-concluded series, as the Indian batter took on the veteran pacer. However, Anderson would bounce back and clean up Gill to get his revenge.

During the match, both men would have a verbal back and forth before Anderson got the wicket of Gill. The England pacer went on to reveal what he told Gill during the spat and what the response was.

Anderson, while talking to the Tailenders podcast, said that he asked Gill if he gets any runs outside India. The pacer revealed that the Indian batter told him it was time to retire in response.

“I said something to him like ‘Do you get any runs outside India?’ and he said ‘It’s time to retire’,” added Anderson. “Then two balls later, I got him out.”

Anderson would end up reaching the 700-wicket landmark during the Test, which England went on to lose by an innings and 64 runs.

What did Shubman Gill say about the James Anderson spat?

The incident took place on Day 2 of the fifth Test. Gill would go on to score 110 runs, which also included a beautiful lofted shot off Anderson for a six.

During the press conference on that day, Gill was asked about the chat he had with Anderson, and he quickly decided to avoid answering it. The Indian star said it would be better for both men to keep it private.

“I think it would be better for both of us to keep that chat in private,” Gill told Sports 18.

Gill went on to score 452 runs during his 9 innings in the series and was second on the highest run-getters list. Anderson wasn’t selected for the first Test in Hyderabad but would play in the remaining ones and picked up 10 wickets.

Anderson has the measure of Gill at the moment in Tests, having dismissed the Indian star 6 times in 12 innings.
