Mumbai Police special team starts probe into 2020 death of Sushant Rajput’s ex-manager Disha Salian

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Mumbai Police started a probe into the alleged suicide of Disha Salian, former manager of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. On Friday, the team went to an apartment in Malad from where Salian allegedly fell to her death.

Salian (28) was found dead on June 8, 2020, days before Rajput (34) was found hanging in his flat in suburban Bandra in Mumbai.

Additional Commissioner of Police (North) Rajiv Jain is heading the SIT. Senior inspector of Malvani police station Chimaji Adhav and his team are conducting the probe, which is being supervised by Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajaykumar Bansal, an official told PTI news agency.

People related to the case were interrogated and Disha Salian’s parents will also be questioned by the SIT.

Salian’s parents had opposed an SIT probe when Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced it last year in the winter session of the state legislature.

“Will the SIT bring back our daughter? Why is all this being done? The case is already closed by Mumbai police. A lot of investigations have already been done, then why again?” Disha Salian’s parents had told India Today.

Her father, Satish Salian, had also written to the police stating that he did not suspect any foul play in his daughter’s death.

However, the case turned political after leaders of the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra raised allegations against Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray.

Before the SIT probe was announced, Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale had claimed that actor Rhea Chakraborty received 44 calls from ‘AU,’ whom the Bihar police have referred to as Aaditya Thackeray. BJP MLA Nitesh Rane had also questioned “which minister was there” on the night that Salian was found dead.

Rane had demanded that Aaditya Thackeray undergo a narco-test in the Salian and Rajput cases.

Eventually, Fadnavis, who also holds the home portfolio, announced the formation of the SIT.
