Police recover decomposed body parts of woman from building in Kolkata

The Kolkata Police on Tuesday recovered decomposed body parts of an unidentified woman from an abandoned building.

According to an official statement from the police, an alert was received about the body parts of an unidentified woman, aged between 30 and 35, lying inside the abandoned building under the jurisdiction of Kolkata’s Watgunge Police Station.

Responding to the alert, a police team reached the spot and recovered the body parts from the building, located on Sastitala Lane in the city.

The body parts were stuffed in three black plastic bags, police said.

Officers of the Homicide Department of Kolkata Police also visited the spot along with sniffer dogs, it added.

Speaking on the issue, DC (Port) Harikrishna Rai said, “It appears that the woman was murdered somewhere else and the body parts were put inside plastic bags and dumped at different places. We are trying to establish her identity,” to news agency PTI.

Further investigation is underway to locate the other body parts, police said.

Earlier in March, the Kolkata Police also recovered the body of a businessman from Gujarat who was kidnapped and was found dead on the terrace of his associate in the city. The body was found in an empty space under a water tank and police said a concrete wall was being constructed to hide it.

A case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered in connection with the case and a probe was launched by the police.
