Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Kaduva has opened to mixed reviews. However, the film landed in soup after it came about that the film contains derogatory dialogues about differently-abled children. State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities SH Panchapakesan had issued notices to director Shaji Kailas and producers Supriya Menon and Listin Stephen seeking an explanation for the dialogues used in the film. After receiving flak from the audience, Prithviraj has now issued an apology on social media and the makers have removed the scene from the film.

PRITHVIRAJ APOLOGISES FOR DEROGATORY KADUVA SCENE

A scene from Prithviraj Sukumaran’s recently-released film Kaduva contains a derogatory dialogues about differently-abled children. This didn’t go down with the audience and platforms that work towards differently-abled children. It snowballed into a huge controversy, post which, Kaduva makers issued an apology note on Facebook and removed the derogatory scene. Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran also apologised for hurting people’s sentiments. He wrote, “Sorry. It was a mistake. We acknowledge and accept it (sic).”

WHAT WAS THE CONTROVERSIAL SCENE IN KADUVA?

During a sequence in Kaduva, protagonist Kaduvakkunnel Kuruvachan, played by Prithviraj Sukumaran, said differently-abled children are born with such conditions as a result of their parents’ past sins. Parivaar, an association of parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, filed a complaint against the makers for the derogatory dialogue. State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities SH Panchapakesan had issued notices to Kaduva makers seeking an explanation into the same. The dialogue has also enraged social media users. It has now been removed by the makers.
