Rajya Sabha elections: BJP claims ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ chanted after Karnataka Congress’ Rajya Sabha win

The BJP has alleged that “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans were raised by Congress workers inside the Assembly while celebrating party leader Naseer Hussain’s win in the Rajya Sabha polls. The Congress rejected these claims, saying its workers were only raising slogans for Hussain and not what the BJP was claiming.

On Tuesday, the Congress won three of four Rajya Sabha seats in Karnataka.

Shortly after the results were announced, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya shared a video of Congress workers celebrating Hussain’s win, alleging that “Pakistan Zindabad” was being raised.

“Pakistan Zindabad slogans raised after Congress’s Naseer Hussain, political secretary of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, won Rajya Sabha election from Karnataka. Congress’s obsession with Pakistan is dangerous. It is taking India towards balkanisation. We can’t afford it,” Malviya said in a post on X.

Many other BJP leaders, including Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Karnataka leader CT Ravi, shared the video on social media with the same claim.

Rejecting the BJP’s claim, Congress leader Naseer Hussain said that he only heard slogans such as ‘Naseer Hussain Zindabad,’ ‘Congress party Zindabad,’ ‘Naseer Khan Zindabad,’ and ‘Naseer Saab Zindabad.’

“I didn’t hear whatever was shown in the media. If I had heard that, I would have objected, condemned the statement, and called for necessary action against them,” he said.

Meanwhile, the National President of Indian Youth Congress, Srinivas BV, dismissed the BJP’s claims, saying that party workers were actually saying, “Naseer Saab Zindabad” in the video.

Accusing the BJP of “lying”, Srinivas BV said the saffron party was trying to confuse “Naseer Saab Zindabad” with “Pakistan Zindabad”.

Although BJP leaders went to the police to file a complaint on Tuesday evening, the Bengaluru Police took cognisance of the matter on its own and filed a case under Section 153 (whoever malignantly, or wantonly by doing anything which is illegal, gives provocation to any person intending or knowing it to be likely that such provocation will cause the offence of rioting to be committed).
