Truck hits pick-up vehicle in UP’s Jalaun, 4 killed, several injured


Four people, including a two-year-old child, died while 8-10 others got injured late Sunday night in Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun district after a dumper truck rammed a pickup vehicle.

According to the police, the incident happened near the Katehari toll plaza on a service road that connects the National Highway 27 with the Bundelkhand Expressway.

After the incident, police and the expressway officials rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to the Orai Medical College, while the dead were sent for postmortem.

The incident happened when a coaching teacher, along with his family members and students, was returning to Jalaun in a pickup vehicle after offering prayers at Datia’s Peetambra Mata Temple.

As their vehicle reached near the service road, a high-speed truck hit it from behind, following which it overturned.

The dead have been identified as Aniruddha (2), Priyanka (28), Nancy (16) and Munni Devi (50).

The truck driver fled from the incident after the incident.

Speaking about the incident, Jalaun’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Iraj Raja said, “We received information that a pickup vehicle that was coming from Jhansi-side was hit by a truck near the Kaithi bridge following which it overturned. Four people died in the incident while 8-10 people were injured.”

“We have coordinated with the doctors and all the necessary medical care has been provided to the injured,” he added.

A probe has been launched to look into the accident, he added.
