PATNA: Authorities in Bihar have begun an investigation into the complaints of seven women who were subjected to hysterectomy at a private nursing home in Bihar’s West Champaran without consent.
West Champaran civil surgeon Dr Birendra Kumar Chaudhary said a health department team, during a crackdown on alleged illegal activities at private hospitals, found 11 female patients inside a hospital in Ramnagar panchayat area.
Seven of these 11 patients had undergone uterus removal surgery while two or three women had C-section deliveries. “They had all been operated upon five to seven days back. So, instead of disturbing them, we deputed our ANM (auxiliary nurse midwife) and two male staff and a security person. But some people linked with the hospital administration got the patients removed between 2am and 4am,” he said.
He said officials raided the house of one of the patients, but she was missing from there, too. The team managed to trace her along with another female patient. An FIR was lodged. A team had been formed to conduct raids against illegal private hospitals following complaints of a health racket being run in the district.
