Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has backed Indian batter Virat Kohli to arrest his slump and return to form in international cricket. On Thursday, July 16, Kohli started to find his rhythm with three glorious fours off Reece Topley in India’s second ODI against England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
But after scoring 16 runs off 25 balls, he got out to left-armer David Willey. Subsequently, India went on to lose the match by 100 runs at the Home of Cricket. After Kohli registered another low score at the highest level, Babar dropped a tweet that read, “This too shall pass, stay strong.”
On the same, the 27-year-old Babar said that a player needs support while going through a poor run of form. Babar put forth his opinions before Pakistan’s Test series against Sri Lanka that starts on Saturday, July 16 in Galle.
“As a player myself, I know you can go through such a phase (out of form) and I also know what a player goes through in such a phase. In those times, you need support. I just tweeted thinking that it will give just some support. He is one of the best players,” Babar was quoted as saying in the pre-match press conference.
Babar also said that Kohli is a good enough cricketer to come out of his rough patch and return to his very best. “He is playing a lot of cricket and he knows how to come out of these situations. It takes time, if you back players, it will be really good,” Babar added.
As far as Babar is concerned, he has been going through a purple patch in his career and is within touching distance of scoring 10,000 runs in international cricket.
