Congress candidate dies of heart attack after election loss in MP’s Rewa

Harinarayan Gupta, a Congress leader who was contesting the election to municipal council in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa, died on Sunday after he came across the news of his election loss.

Harinarayan Gupta was in the fray for ward no.9 of municipal council in Rewa’s Hanumana area on a Congress ticket. However, independent candidate Akhilesh Gupta defeated him by 14 votes.

On hearing the news of his election defeat, Harinarayan got a heart attack and died.

Harinarayan Gupta was also the mandal president of the Congress unit in Hanumana.

On Sunday, the results of the local bodies’ elections in Madhya Pradesh were announced.

The local bodies elections were held for 413 municipalities, including 16 Nagar Palika Nigam, 99 Nagar Palika Parishad and 298 Nagar Parishad in two phases – on July 6 and 13.

As per results, the BJP has emerged victorious in Burhanpur, Satna, Khandwa and Sagar, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) opened its account by winning in Singrauli.
