Lucknow: Amid China grappling with the coronavirus pandemic and the Centre and the state governments initiating steps to tackle any possible outbreak in India, the average daily vaccination in the city has increased by almost 300per cent in the last five days.
According to the CoWIN portal, on an ,average about 112 people were being vaccinated daily in the first 20 days of this month, but the number has increased to 429 per day in the last five days.
This is when only four government hospitals are inoculating against Covid-19.
The highest increase of five times has been observed in the precaution dose category from 61 vaccinations per day. Along with this, the number of people taking the first dose has also doubled. However, the increase in mean double dose administration increased from 33 daily to only 15per cent.
According to experts, the demand for vaccine doses had decreased due to a dip in Covid-19 cases, but now when people are seeing a surge in China and other countries, fear is rising, bringing them to vaccination centres. They also suggested that vaccination drives should be pushed again.
District immunisation officer Dr MK Singh said, “While there is an overall rise, most of the people coming for vaccination are between 18 to 59 years of age. They had taken two doses and were delaying precautionary doses due to complacency.”
“However, ever since reports of rise in Covid-19 started pouring in, people are getting vaccinated with precaution. We have requested the state government for more vaccine doses and the number of centres will also be increased soon,” he said.
